History of Lakshadweep:
The early history of Lakshadweep is rooted in legends, with Cheraman Perumal’s conversion to Islam believed to have led to the island’s settlement. Saint Ubaydullah played a pivotal role in spreading Islam in the 7th century. The Portuguese plundered the islands in the 16th century, facing resistance, and despite their conversion to Islam, sovereignty initially rested with the Hindu king. The islands later came under the oppressive rule of the Arakkal House, prompting Amini’s residents to seek Tipu Sultan’s intervention in 1783. After the Battle of Seringapatam in 1799, the British East India Company annexed and administered the islands. In 1847, a loan dispute arose between Sir William Robinson and the Raja of Chirakkal.
